Getting a CFA® charter certainly involves heavy investments of time and effort – but for most successful candidates, this will all pay off when they land a job in one of these 10 firms.

A CFA® charter is particularly useful in opening doors in the financial world when looking for jobs in particular sectors, such as asset management, investment banking (M&A), and in the equities sector.

Data from efinancialcareers shows the top 10 companies with the highest proportion of CFA® charterholders (this means that are most likely to employ charterholders, based on the proportion of resumes explicitly requiring charterholder status).

In descending order, they are:

1. PIMCO

The investment management firm manages the largest active bond fund in the world and does millions of investments across risk and capital structure. It is a thought leader in financial markets.

2. Blackrock

The American company is the largest asset manager in the world and owns Barclays Global Investors. It had assets of $4.3 trillion in 2014.

3. Bluecrest Capital Management

Founded in 2000, this company one of the largest alternative asset managers in the world and focused on fixed income macro trading.

4. KKR

The firm manages private equities and investments in energy, infrastructure, real estate, credit strategies, and hedge funds worldwide

5. Goldman Sachs

Though recognised as an investment bank, most of the company’s revenue comes from sales and trading. After the 2008 financial crisis, the bank was saved from bankruptcy by bailouts, which ir paid back in less than a year.

6. Carlyle Group

The corporation is one of the largest private equity firms in the world. It is one of the largest investors in leveraged buyout transactions and has extensively acquired commercial real estate.

7. Jefferies

Considered one of the world's most admired companies by Fortune, the investment bank and institutional securities firm offers capital markets and financial advisory services like mergers and acquisitions. It is now an operating company within Leucadia, an investment conglomerate

8. Blackstone

The largest alternative investment firm in the world is one of the first private equity firms to be listed on the stock market. It is one of the largest investors in leveraged buyouts, and is an active buyer of commercial real estate.

9. Bridgewater

The world's largest hedge fund uses economic trends such as inflation, currency exchange rates, and GDP to do macro investing. It is noted for inventing the risk parity investment approach in 1996.

10. Nomura

The only Japanese company in this list of primarily American firms is a financial holding company, and focuses mostly on securities. It acquired Lehman Brothers’ investment banking and equities units in Asia and Europe after the 2008 financial crisis.
